Harambee Literary Prize is instituted by a group of writers in East Africa with the aim of fostering creative writing within the international literary society, particularly among the youth. It aims at nurturing imaginative abilities and promoting the craft of writing by rewarding budding authors. The prize also prides itself in helping new writers cross the red-tape traditionally associated with the publishing industry. Transparency and integrity are among the core pillars of the Prize’s ethos, and therefore writers are judged anonymously, solely on meritorious grounds. Judges are blinded with regard to the personal details of writers. Names of writers will be revealed at the end only after judges have determined the verdict. All entries submitted through the Harambee Literary Prize portal are automatically coded and sent onward to the judges for assessment. The panel of judges for each prize will vary, and are selected from all corners of the global literary space. The award is funded by private donors and individuals. Harambee Literary Prize has zero tolerance for racism, tribalism and such other isms.
